FSA Accredited Forest School

“If children don’t grow up knowing about nature and appreciating it, they will not understand it. And if they don’t understand it, they won’t protect it. And if they don’t protect it, who will?” Sir David Attenborough

At Jack In The Box, we consider that nature is at the heart of childhood.

We are proud to be an accredited Forest School provider, offering children meaningful opportunities to learn, explore and grow within our beautiful woodland environment. Our Forest School programme is carefully woven throughout nursery life, creating rich experiences that nurture confidence, resilience, creativity and a lifelong connection with the natural world.

Forest School is much more than outdoor play. It is a specialist educational approach built upon regular, long-term experiences in nature. Through seasonal exploration, child-led learning and carefully supported challenge, children develop independence, problem-solving skills, emotional wellbeing and a deep sense of belonging in the world around them.

Why Choose Our Forest School?

As a recognised Forest School Association provider, we meet rigorous standards to ensure our programme is delivered authentically and safely.

Our highly qualified Level 3 Forest School Leaders are also experienced early years practitioners, enabling them to skilfully combine outdoor learning with children’s individual developmental needs.

Our programme is designed around the interests of the children and includes opportunities to:

  • Explore and discover within our woodland environment
  • Develop confidence through managed risk and challenge
  • Learn bushcraft and practical outdoor skills
  • Experience woodworking using real tools
  • Participate in campfire cooking and outdoor dining
  • Enjoy Water School experiences throughout the year
  • Build resilience, independence and self-esteem
  • Develop a love and respect for the natural world

Children spend extended periods immersed in nature, allowing them the time and freedom to become deeply engaged in their learning and play.

A Nature-Led Curriculum

Forest School forms part of our wider Nature-Led Curriculum, where creativity, wellbeing, musicality, home crafts, sustainability and community connections are thoughtfully interwoven throughout the year.

Alongside their woodland experiences, children enjoy seasonal celebrations, family events, educational visits and community projects that help them develop a strong sense of identity, belonging and responsibility towards the world around them.

Our commitment to sustainability also runs through every aspect of our practice, helping children develop an appreciation for caring for both their local environment and the wider planet.

Forest School Programme Charge

Our accredited Forest School Programme forms part of the fully inclusive Jack In The Box experience for children attending on full fee-paying places.

For children accessing Government Early Education Funding, the funded entitlement covers the statutory EYFS provision. As our accredited Forest School Programme, enhanced nature-led curriculum, specialist teaching, sustainability initiatives, outings and enrichment experiences sit beyond this funded offer, families may choose to access these additional opportunities through our Forest School Programme charge.

At Jack In The Box, we believe childhood should be filled with wonder, adventure, meaningful connections and opportunities to thrive. Our Forest School programme helps make this possible every single day.
